Come take a tour of this remarkable silver mine.
A tour at the Sierra Silver Mine will allow you to learn more about this historic silver mine that was discovered in 1900. Along with a tour inside the mine, visitors can experience firsthand what it is like mining for ore. These mines were once full of ore, and with each ton of mined ore, it created ½ an ounce of pure silver. By the 1960s, the mining work was sporadic, and eventually, the silver mine evolved into a lab for the local high school students. These labs stood as a great source of education for students interested in the mining industry. Twenty years later in 1982, the Sierra Silver Mining Tour Inc. turned these mines into a sightseeing tour.
The next time you visit Idaho, be sure to check out the Sierra Silver Mine and get an inside look into the history behind mining from former miners themselves. The mine is dedicated to preserving history and educating current and future generations about the practices, culture, and history surrounding the mining business in this region. They are open 7 days a week from May to October. The tour lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes and is great for all ages, with tours departing every half hour. The temperature inside the mine is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit so be sure to wear a light jacket and bring your camera along to capture some awesome shots during your tour.
