Come take a tour of this remarkable silver mine.
The Sierra Silver Mining tour will allow you to learn more about this silver mine and its history dating back to the 1900s. Along with a tour inside the mine, visitors can experience what it is like mining for ore. These mines were once full of ore, and with each ton of mined ore, it created ½ an ounce of pure silver. By the 1960s, the mining work was sporadic, and eventually, the silver mine evolved into a lab for the local high school students. These labs stood as a great source of education for students interested in the mining industry. Twenty years later in 1982, the Sierra Silver Mining Tour Inc. turned these mines into a sightseeing tour.
The next time you visit Idaho, be sure to check out the Sierra Silver Mine and get an inside look into the history behind mining. They are open 7 days a week from May to October. The tours last 1 hour and 15 minutes, with tours departing every half hour. The temperature inside the mine is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit so be sure to wear a light jacket and bring your camera along to capture some shots during your tour.
