Take a scenic train ride in northern West Virginia.
The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad is located in northeastern West Virginia, and it follows a route paralleling the Potomac River, where many bald eagles live. In 1985, a flood caused heavy damage to over a dozen miles of track. However, the railroad was not abandoned, and this tragedy facilitated the need for more jobs for railroad workers. This scenic railroad has been offering rides since 1991. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, they tend to be more active when it is cloudy or rainy, but it is not uncommon for guests to spot these majestic birds during this scenic ride.
Potomac Eagle's station office is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and the ticket office is open one hour before scheduled departure times. Please arrive early; you can begin boarding 30 minutes before your departure time. There are several packages to choose from, with prices starting at $35 per adult (for the Standard Coach Green Spring Trip) and up to $205 (Superior Dining All-Day Trip). Premium and Superior Dining have climate-controlled cars, so you can sit back and enjoy the views in ultimate comfort.
