This museum allows visitors to step back into colonial America via its vast collection of exhibits and highly realistic building replications and living demonstrations.

The Frontier Culture Museum helps share the story of those who came to America during colonial times. Located in Staunton, Virginia, the mission of this museum is to educate visitors about the impact indigenous, European, and African people made on the development of American folk culture. Thousands migrated or were taken as captives to the US in the 1600s and 1700s, but all brought with them their skills of farming and craftsmanship and played a major role in the foundation of the American colonies. The museum opened in the early 1980s and operates under the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Frontier Culture Museum has a vast array of permanent and temporary exhibits that provide invaluable knowledge regarding the history of colonial America. There are interactive and living history demonstrations throughout the museum as well as outdoor exhibits separated into two sections, Old World and America. There are replications of what traditional buildings and homes would have looked like during these times, which really helps immerse guests and make them feel like they truly traveled back in time.

The Frontier Culture Museum is open 7 days a week, and the hours of operation vary by season. From mid-March to December, it's open from 9-5, and from December until March, it is open from 10-4. Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours during the spring/summer/fall hours and guided tours during the winter. There are free shuttles available on the property if you desire a ride after seeing everything on foot or the museum even offers golf carts to rent. Admission to the museum is $12 for adults, $11 for students (13-college), $9 for seniors, $7 for children (6-12), and children under 6 are free. This is a one-of-a-kind museum that offers priceless knowledge through incredible and eye-catching exhibits, and it’s a place that truly everyone can enjoy.
