This museum has four floors of incredible art!
The Portland Museum of Art was founded in 1882, making it the oldest public art institution in the state of Maine. Situated in the downtown area of Portland, this museum is easily accessible and there is something here for everyone. Outside, there is a creative sculpture garden and inside you will find stunning classic, contemporary, and modern art. They have a great collection that is well displayed. Picasso, Renoir, Monet, Wyeth, and Kent are some of the artists represented here. The Portland Museum of Art has plenty of local artists' works displayed. as well. The art has nice notations for needed information. The museum is open and airy, with plenty of room to navigate the spaces.
Downstairs in the basement area of the building is a food court if you get hungry while visiting and do not want to leave the premises. The entrance fee is $18 for adults, students that are 21 and under are free, and if you can attend on Fridays, the fee is waived. The museum is open from Thursday through Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm, and open on Fridays until 8 pm. The gift shop has theme-related gifts, and there are restrooms and elevators on every floor.
