Visit one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine.
Nubble Lighthouse is located in York, Maine, and was built in 1849. It sits on the summit of Cape Neddick Bubble. It is on its own little Island and accessible to its caretakers and various volunteers via rowboat. At this time, Matt Rosenberg is the main lightkeeper and has been for several years. He works as a High School teacher. While looking for summer work, he found this amazing job through York Parks and Recreation department and has never looked back since. Matt still teaches and spends lots of time at Nubble doing various jobs like mowing the grass surrounding the house and the lighthouse. The inside of the keeper's house is like a time capsule and, although maintained, does not house anyone. York High School has a Lighthouse club that does community service among other groups of people who help around the lighthouse. The coast guard maintains the light in the lighthouse to this day.
Visitors can enjoy picturesque views of Nubble from Sohier Park, where there is a parking lot, a visitors center, and a gift shop. It is worth the trip to come and see the lighthouse, especially at night when it is lit up. Nubble Lighthouse is open for viewing 24 hours a day.
