Visit a gorgeous historic mansion in southeastern New Hampshire.
Governor John Langdon's house is a historical landmark and features Georgian architectural style. John Langdon was a governor, Revolutionary War leader, and one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution. Langdon grew up in Portsmouth and was a well-known merchant and shipbuilder. He purchased the property in 1775, but construction on the house didn't start until 1784. George Washington attended several social events at this home and admired the house above all other homes located nearby.
This place portrays the history of the early New Hampshire colonists and is open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm. You can tour the house if you visit sometime between June and early October; however, the grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk. Parking is not available at the house, but you can park in the lot right across the street or in one of the metered parking spots. Leashed pets are allowed on the grounds but not indoors. Please note that the house is not fully wheelchair accessible. Admission prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children.
