Venture out to this neat tower that is a spectacle hidden from the general public.
This tower is located next to a cliff off Laguna Beach, hidden away from the general public. It is popular for photoshoots, but it requires a permit due to the location's private nature. Pirate Tower was allegedly built in 1962 for a former California Senator, whose property included his house and a section of the beach below. It stands 60-feet tall and features small windows reminiscent of a castle tower. Unfortunately, guests cannot enter the tower, but to find the tower, first park along the neighborhood's streets. Walk on the sidewalk until you see a small, wire gate with a swinging door. The entrance to this staircase is difficult to find and may seem invasive, but the beach is absolutely open to the public. The intimate setting of the area is popular among surfers and rarely draws a crowd.
To the right of the staircase around the cliff is a stony flat area. Pirate Tower can be found in the center of this rocky slab, with the cliff wall to the right and the ocean to the left. Climbing the tower is prohibited since the steps are not safe for people to walk on anymore. The entrance to the narrow tower is also locked to prevent potential injury. High tide may cover the ground, so visits to this site should be planned accordingly.
