SeaWorld was founded in 1964 with the original attraction idea being an underwater restaurant. Though this was not feasible at the time, the project expanded into a 22-acre marine park. SeaWorld has continued to expand throughout the years and is now part of a global animal rescue, rehabilitation and research program. The rescue teams have helped more than 38,000 animals in need with the goal of rehabilitating and returning them back to the wild. Animals that are no longer able to survive on their own in the wild are given lifelong care. SeaWorld provides financial and scientific support for conservation projects across the globe and has joined forces with the Humane Society, OCEARCH and world-renowned marine conservationist Guy Harvey.
