Take a free tour of this impressive building.
Architect James Dakin designed Louisiana's Old State Capitol building. It features gothic-style architecture, and it is a prominent building that has been around since the mid-1800s. Tragically, the interior of the original building was badly damaged during the Civil War, but reconstruction and renovation projects have helped preserve and improve upon the building since the late 1880s. Stained glass windows are located throughout the building, adding to its current beauty and majesty.
Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided or group tour of this historical landmark in Baton Rouge. Please note that no food, drinks, or gum are allowed inside the building. Restrooms are located on the first floor, and there are several restaurants within walking distance in Baton Rouge's downtown development district. Explore this unique historical site if you're traveling through Louisiana; you won't regret spending time here.
