Explore this mystifying cave system in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
The Lost World Caverns are located in southeastern West Virginia off Interstate 64. These caverns are 120 feet underground and remain at a constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit regardless of outside temperature. Lost World Caverns were first discovered in 1942. They offer a general self-guided tour and a wild cave tour. A general cave tour allows everyone to go at their own pace, but you must remain on the trails. Please note there are several steps, so it is not ADA-accessible, and the trail follows a half-mile loop. The wild cave tour is best suited for more adventurous people who want to explore the undeveloped parts of the cave, and these guided tours take about 4 hours.
Stalagmites within the Lost World Caverns vary in size, but many of these are up to 80 feet tall. One notable formation called the snowy chandelier is a 30-ton compound stalactite. Photos are allowed on the general tour, so feel free to take pictures of this and other cool formations inside the cave. Daily cave tours are available from March to December, and it is recommended to book your tour in advance.
