James Island County Park is just a short drive from downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The park encompasses 643 acres and has plenty of natural beauty to enjoy featuring nearly seven miles of intertwining walking and bike paths. There are open meadows, saltwater fishing and crabbing, a playground, a seasonal splash zone, picnic spots with tables and grills, a sand volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. They also have a climbing wall with 4,500 square feet of climbing space. Head to Splash Zone to stay cool in the summer. It is a water park with various slides, a lazy river, changing rooms, lockers, and concessions. Dogs are allowed at the nearby dog park, giving your furry friends plenty of space to run around.
James Island County Park also offers pedal boat, stand up paddleboard, and kayak rentals. Park hours are as follows: January through April from 8 AM to sunset, May through August from 8 AM to 8 PM, September and October from 8 AM to sunset, and November to December from 8 AM to 5 PM.
