Learn about Jack Jouett, a hero of the American Revolution.
During the Revolutionary War, Jack Jouett was 26 years old and needed to warn Governor Thomas Jefferson that the British forces were coming to capture Jefferson. Jouett rode horseback to Monticello during a dangerous night ride. Later on, Jack Jouett served in the Virginia and Kentucky general assemblies and was a member of the Constitutional Convention when Kentucky achieved Statehood. This historic home was built in 1797 for Captain Jack Jouett. He and his wife, Sallie Robards, had 12 children and brought in cattle and horses to Kentucky to improve the bloodstock. On the farm, Jouett also raised hemp and ran a distillery.
The museum is located alongside Craig's Creek, just two miles from the Kentucky River. It is a Federal-Style brick house and has a parlor, dining room, 3 bedrooms, and an herb garden.
