Indiana Dunes National Park

Be enchanted by the Indiana Dunes along Lake Michigan's southern shoreline.

Indiana Dunes National Park is located off U.S. Highway 12 in northwestern Indiana. It was once a national lakeshore but has since been established as a U.S. National Park back in 2019. Popular recreational activities to do at the Indiana Dunes include bird watching, hiking, kite flying, picnicking, swimming, and sunbathing on the beach. You can also go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing here in the winter. With over 60 tent-only campsites plus over 50 RV sites, you can also consider spending multiple days at the park. There is plenty of cell reception, but the restrooms, hot showers, and other amenities may only be available seasonally. The campgrounds are open annually from the beginning of April through the end of October, but the park itself is open year-round.

With 15,000 acres of wilderness to explore, it is easy to find something to do at the Indiana Dunes National Park. Leashed dogs are allowed in certain park areas as long as they behave themselves around people and the local wildlife. Horseback riders can also have a good time here; the Glenwood Dunes trail system has some equestrian-friendly trails.
