This distillery is the western-most stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s.
Green River Distilling Co. is the western-most distillery along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and it’s been crafting quality whiskey since 1885. Located in Owensboro, Kentucky, Green River has strong family ties within the family it was born from, and it has persevered through incredible obstacles to get to where it is today. In 1918, a fire unfortunately consumed the original Green River Distillery, taking everything with it. Over the years, the property was sold and operated by various distillery management groups under different names. In 2016, renovations were completed, and the distillery that we know and love today opened back up for production. Finally, in 2020, things came full circle when the name Green River Distilling Co. was given back to this distillery by the permission of the great-grandson of the original owner who opened Green River way back in 1885.
The Green River Bourbon Whiskey is the flagship product of this distillery. Barrel-aged for 5 years and masterfully crafted, it’s a favorite among the community here. Green River is open daily for tours and tasting experiences. There are a few different tours to choose from, and each will provide you with a unique and educational experience. The tastings and tours range between $12 and $45, depending on which one best suits what you’re looking for. If you’re making your way through the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, you don’t miss out on Green River Distilling Co. and the remarkable history embedded here.
