This old hotel and restaurant dates back to 1909 and still welcomes visitors.
Many people visited Berea College back in the day, and VIPs would stay at the College President's home when they came to visit. As the colleges' reputation grew, the number of visitors increased. Eventually, Boone Tavern Hotel and Restaurant was built to host all the visitors. Some people that have stayed at Boone Tavern include the Dalai Lama, President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Maya Angelou. This is truly a special place.
There is a courtyard with stately trees providing shade outside, and the veranda is a favorite place to take in the views of Berea College. You are also welcome to sit and relax in the rocking chairs on the wraparound porch. This building features high ceilings, and local college students handcrafted all the furnishings. Tavern Restaurant is a favorite for both locals and visitors due to its inviting atmosphere, food, and full bar.
The Farm Store sells food produced on the country's oldest continually operated college farm and it is a short walk away from the Boone Tavern. They also serve lunch and breakfast on Saturday mornings. While in the area, a visit to the Forestry Outreach Center would also be worth your while. Berea owns and sustainably manages 9,000 acres of forest, and all the wood is harvested with draft horses to minimize the impact on the forest. A popular place to hike is The Pinnacles, which has been rated the best hike in Kentucky by the Outside Magazine (once read by Daniel Boone himself).
