Come here for bird watching and explore the interpretive center.
Gulf Coast Bird Observatory headquarters (including the interpretive center) is located in Lake Jackson, Texas. Visitors are welcome to experience the interpretive center on weekdays between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. You can also hike over two miles of trails around the sanctuary. Those who walk the trails are guaranteed to see birds at the various feeding stations. Special events are often held here, such as bird tours, summer camps, bird of the month, and more. The Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is run by an independent non-profit organization that strives to protect several bird species and their natural habit. Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is a combination of eight different bird observatory protection groups along the Gulf Coast that has since merged into one.
The observatory depends on donations to continue their work and the general public can participate in donation opportunities, one of which is the adoption of the Oystercatcher bird. Patrons who choose to adopt can witness a banding with a specialized locator device and receive updates about their adopted bird. Other donation opportunities include participating in events, purchasing items from the Nature Store, and more. The Nature Store has a variety of merchandise, including bird feeders, gifts, souvenirs, apparel, native plants, and educational books.
