Witness a rich ecosystem full of various wildlife creatures.
Established in 1966, this wildlife refuge features over 40,000 acres of land that has been set apart as a place to watch wildlife and enjoy the serenity of the outdoors. Visitors will find both salt and freshwater marshes and various ponds and coastal prairies where hundreds of diverse bird species come to nest along their migratory routes. The mild temperatures and natural habitats located within the refuge are what make this place so unique and full of life. Butterflies and dragonflies abound but may be harder to locate during your self-guided tour. Mammals that you may see include river otters, shrews, gophers, skunks, bats, squirrels, deer, and mice. There are almost 100 reptiles and amphibians who may be lurking in the waters, so please remain on the designated paved trails during your visit.
The Brazoria Wildlife Refuge is a perfect place to come and reconnect with nature. Please note that the best times to view the most wildlife creatures are at dawn and dusk. Do not attempt to feed any wildlife creature, but feel free to watch them from afar with the help of binoculars.
