Fort Gibson was established in 1824 and was constructed near the area where three local rivers converged. It was abandoned in 1857 but used again during the American Civil War era. This is a National Historic Landmark and underwent heavy restoration work from 2013 to 2016, and it is located in northeastern Oklahoma.
Come and see the reconstructed log fort and stockade and original buildings that played a pivotal role in the United States' westward expansion. The Fort Gibson Historic Site hosts several living history special events during the year. Admission is very affordable for children and adults of all ages. They also have family and group rates plus senior citizen and military discounts available. Guests are welcome to learn more about Fort Gibson's history at the nearby visitor center, which open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
