Drive across the floating bridge, which connects State Route 520 across Lake Washington.
Evergreen Point Floating Bridge is a bridge that connects State Route 520 across Lake Washington. This bridge is a record-breaking 7,000 feet long. The original bridge opened on August 28, 1963, but that bridge was shorter than the one you see today.
In 1989, the current bridge was completed, extending the length and meeting safety guidelines. The road was also lifted to get it further away from the water level. It has a building attached that monitors the bridge's stats and life support, ensuring it is always operating safely and without hazard. The bridge is secured by 77 concrete pontoons, keeping it afloat. It is also secured to the bottom of the lake by 58 anchors.
The bridge also features a toll system, ranging from a couple of dollars to as much as five, depending on the time of day you travel on the bridge. Driving across the bridge is a unique experience since the entire bridge is floating on the water.
