Visit the largest lake in New Mexico.
Elephant Butte Lake State Park is located about 85 miles north of Las Cruces, New Mexico. It features campgrounds, three boat ramps, hiking trails, and desert landscapes surrounding the lake. Elephant Butte Lake is large enough to accommodate houseboats, and visitors often come here for water sports such as kayaking, jet skiing, and sailing. RV campers are welcome to book a stay here. They have well over 100 campsites with water and electricity hookups, plus an on-site dump station.
Anglers who want expert guides can request fishing guides via their website. The guides will tell you the best fishing spots on the lake and offer insider tips for bait to use. Bird enthusiasts should come anytime between September and May to see shorebirds and migratory fowl that come to the area. Common birds you may see include pelicans, grebes, various gulls, and ducks. If you're in southern New Mexico, don't miss out on Elephant Butte Lake State Park.
