Ascend over the peaks of the Rio Grande Valley in a tram car.
The Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This unique venue has transported over 1.2 million passengers since 1966 and has recently celebrated over 50 years of operation. The tramway took two years to create and was inspired by a tramway in Europe. Upon arrival, visitors will reach a parking lot. ADA-accessible parking is located in the upper parking lot of the lower terminal. An elevator takes guests to the second floor where you can head to the ticket office. Passengers can ride in one of two comfortable tram cars. The ride takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the top of Sandia Peak and goes 2.7-miles above the canyons.
Upon reaching the peak, you will be at 10,300 feet above sea level. If you've worked up an appetite, stick around for a while at the peak and enjoy fine dining, casual dining, and shopping. Located on the top of the crest is the TEN 3 restaurant, which has delicious appetizers, hand-crafted beers, and cocktails. Skiing is offered in the winter, and during the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day), visitors can explore various hiking trails and participate in seasonal events. Tickets can be purchased online or in-person to ride the tram. Keep in mind that the tram cars can take to 15 to 30 minutes to descend the tramway track, so take the tram back down whenever you're ready to leave. Passengers will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to get a great view of Albuquerque, ride the Sandia Peak Tramway.
