Discover this historic Florida lighthouse.
Crooked River Lighthouse is located off U.S. Highway 98 in Florida's panhandle. The Crooked River Lighthouse and Keeper's House museum is a historic site built in 1895. It was established to help the logging and fishing industry navigate the narrow pass between the Dog and St. George islands. Visitors are welcome to admire the exterior of the Crooked River Lighthouse and even climb the tower (if the weather permits). The keeper's museum has interesting artifacts, including the lighthouse's original Fourth Order Fresnel lens. They host an annual lantern festival in November, so check their website for more information if you plan to visit during that time of year.
This historic lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets to climb the lighthouse are $5 per adult (17+), $3 for youth (6-16), and children under six can climb for free. Admission to the keeper's museum is free, and it is open during the same times listed above. If you love lighthouses, add the Crooked River Lighthouse to your northern Florida itinerary.
