Confederate Memorial Park, in Marbury, Alabama is located in Chilton County, east of I-65 and off of Highway 31. This Historic Memorial Park incorporates historic buildings and beautiful park grounds. This historic park contains 102 acres of park grounds and various historic buildings. The park grounds have nature trails, trails for bird watching, and trails that lead to an original hand-dug spring. There is also land here that contains two cemeteries where 298 confederate soldier graves can be found. The historic buildings of the memorial park include Alabama's one and only Confederate Veteran's Home. This home was operational from 1902-1939, and it closed in 1939 after the death of the last confederate soldier. This home helped veteran soldiers from retirement to death, and it cared for their wives and widows. Other historic buildings include a museum, a confederate reference library, and more.
The park grounds admission is free, however, museums, events, programs, and property rentals are accessible for a fee. Discounts are available for groups, students, seniors, and entrance is free to active or reserve military personnel. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk. The museum contains exhibits of confederate veteran life, artifacts from the Civil War, a confederate reference library, and more. The Historic Memorial Park library, buildings, restrooms, pavilions, and nature trails are all accessible to those with physical disabilities, as well. This memorial park is a perfect location for sightseeing, learning about American history, and for making memories.
