A favorite coastal spot for camping, fishing, and hiking in the southeast region of North Carolina.
Wilmington, North Carolina is becoming an increasingly popular destination for outdoor recreational activities. Carolina Beach State Park is a peaceful getaway in this portion of the state and is favored for its many campsite options and hiking trails. This 761-acre park was established in 1969 and resides between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River.
Carolina Beach State Park has an array of trails spanning 9 miles, all contributing different sights and experiences. One of the best trails the park offers is the Flytrap Trail, where you can find Venus Flytraps and other carnivorous plants all around the pathway. You will get to experience an array of ecosystems here, including forests of oak trees, swamp land, and neat sand dunes.
If you want to spend a weekend in the park to take in all it has to offer, they have over 70 campsites dispersed around the grounds for either RVs or tents. Cabins are also available via reservation if that is more your style. Other activities you can expect to enjoy here are boating, fishing, and kayaking in the Cape Fear River. There is an accessible marina in the park to launch your boat out of, and during the busier seasons paddle boards and kayaks are available for rent. It's important to note that due to threatening currents, swimming is not allowed in the water at Carolina Beach State Park.
