Spend a day fishing or walking on North Carolina’s highest pier.
It was originally built over six decades ago, but this iconic pier was rebuilt and reopened after Hurricane Florence hit in 2019. Oak Island Pier is open year-round (weather permitting) and offers great opportunities for fishing. Anyone wishing to walk along the pier is welcome to do so, but fishing passes and permits are required if you intend to fish during your visit. The Pier House has 3-day, 5-day, or 7-day fishing passes available for purchase. You will be given wristbands as proof of purchase, and they must be visible at all times. Fishing permits can also be purchased at the Pier House.
Located on the Southeastern tip of North Carolina, this is a great fishing pier. Beachgoers can also enjoy their visit to Oak Island by walking about half a mile up the street from the pier on Ocean Drive. Parking is available at the pier, but it may fill up quickly during the summer months. Diving or jumping off the pier is prohibited for safety reasons. Keep in mind that no motor vehicles, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or animals are allowed on the pier. The pier itself is over 850 feet long and stands over 20 feet above the water. It offers a breathtaking view if you happen to stop by at dawn or dusk.
