See Jamestown, Rhode Island's most visited landmark.
The Beavertail Lighthouse is the country's third oldest lighthouse and is located near Narragansett Bay. Construction of the lighthouse took less than a year. The original lighthouse was made out of wood but was unfortunately burned down. In 1856, the new lighthouse was constructed. Years later, in 1931, the first electric light beacon was installed here. The assistant lightkeeper's house nearby has been restored and turned into a museum to depict the history of this historic lighthouse.
Guests can climb the lighthouse tower on certain dates, check their website for current information. Small children and pets cannot be carried up the tower; only people who are 4 feet and taller are allowed to go up to the top. Special tour groups can come but must be booked at least two weeks in advance and can accommodate up to 25 people. Beavertail State Park is located right next to the lighthouse if you want to continue exploring the area. Consider a visit to the Beavertail Lighthouse and Museum if you are ever in Rhode Island.
