When you visit Fort Adams State Park, you will learn about the military history of this fort which has served purposes for both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. It was actively used during the Civil War, the Indian Wars, the Mexican War, the Spanish American War, and both World Wars. Visitors who come will also get to enjoy panoramic views of Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor as they walk around the fort. Popular activities to do at Fort Adams State Park include fishing, sailing, soccer, rugby, and picnicking. An annual multi-day Folk Festival and Jazz Festival are held here if you want to enjoy a live music concert in Rhode Island.
People of all ages are welcome to come and learn how to sail at this state park through the Sail Newport organization. This experience is open from May to October. In the summer months, it is open daily and they provide life jackets. Follow signs to the Dock Office upon entering the state park, this is the best place to park so you don't have to walk all the way around.
