Enjoy this scenic walk along the Newport coastline.
This cliff walk is a national recreation trail in Rhode Island and is free and open to the public year-round. People of all ages are welcome to explore this popular Newport attraction. The trail is 3.5 miles long, and guests are welcome to bring leashed dogs with them during their walk. Be careful to avoid any poison ivy; it tends to grow in certain areas along the path.
A small beach (Belmont beach) is found near Marine Avenue if you want to stop and sink your feet in the sand. There are several segments of the path you can choose from, including the remarkable 40 steps area that has a stone staircase leading up to a stunning spot that is perfect for pictures. The North end of this cliff walk is handicap accessible. Those who are avid hikers should check out Rough Point for a nice overlook that is worth the effort it takes to get up there. No matter which part of the cliff walk you go to, it is nice to take a sunrise or sunset stroll along this New England coastline for some breathtaking views of the Atlantic.
