Enjoy views of the Narragansett Bay at this beautiful state park.
The Colt State Park is located in Bristol, Rhode Island. This region was once owned by the industrialist, Samuel Colt, which is why it was named Colt State Park. The west side of the park sits on the Narragansett Bay. Colt State Park is open year-round and has manicured lawns, 4 miles of bike trails, a fishing pier, and fruit trees. This park has sea, land, and some forests to provide various outdoor recreation for visitors. Colt State Park is especially well known for its 4th of July fireworks shows.
The main trail loop, when walked at a leisurely pace, takes about 40 minutes. There is a spot where the park connects with the East Bay Bike Path if you want to ride to Bristol or Barrington. You can also come here to play on one of the 10 large playfields or take a break at one of the picnic groves with hundreds of picnic tables. There are public restrooms and the park is pet-friendly. There is also a historical museum on site to explore, an open-air Chapel-By-The-Sea, and an observation tower. People love to go camping here, too; you can book either the Melville Ponds Campground, Wawaloam Campground, or Worden-Pond Family Campground. The city of Bristol is nearby and was established at the same time that the U.S. Constitution was signed.
