Visit one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation programs in Wisconsin.
The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is a park that receives many sick and injured animals intending to release them back to the wild eventually. Those animals that are unable to be returned to the wild are given a permanent comfortable home. The sanctuary houses many animals native to Wisconsin, including foxes, wolves, bobcats, and various birds and small mammals.
This park is free to the public and includes such facilities as a nature education center, observation building, hiking trails, and of course, numerous animal habitats. The 600-acre park was developed in 1941 after Green Bay purchased land adjacent to the Bay Beach Amusement Park. Originally intended for a golf course, citizens led by Aldo Leopold developed the concept of the wildlife refuge, which was then brought to fruition by the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department. Stop by this beautiful and unique wildlife sanctuary the next time you're in the Green Bay area.
