Learn how Arbor Day became an official U.S. holiday at this historic site.
The Arbor Lodge State Historical Park is located in southeastern Nebraska. In 1872, Arbor Day became an official national holiday and the origins of Arbor Day began here. Visitors can explore the 72-acre park and see inside the historic 52-room mansion that the Morton family used to call home. Along with the mansion, the park features an arboretum, a historic log cabin, walking trails, barns, gardens, and more.
The grounds of this park are open year-round, but tours of the mansions vary depending on the season. General admission to the mansion is $9 for adults, $7 for children, and free for anyone ages 0 to 2. This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the culture and history of Nebraska. If you're traveling through eastern Nebraska, you won't regret stopping by the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park.
