An adorable little farm and gardens with interesting animals to visit all year round.
The 1661 Farm and Gardens is a few minutes from the ferry docks and is located on Block Island. Justin Abrams created the farm with an interesting and exotic collection of animals. Abrams loved to have visitors come and enjoy viewing them and feeding a few. It is a small hobby farm between Spring and High Street. Justin Abram passed away in 2016 and his grandsons still run things just as their grandpa would. Some of the animals are typical and some are not. There are sheep, goats, ducks, donkeys, and swans. Some unusual animals for a farm live here as well like emus, kangaroos, llamas, lemurs, and even some camels, too! Even a zebu, a yak, and a zedonk that is named Cindy call the farm home. Justin began collecting animals many years ago. It is free to visit the farm and enjoy the animals from dawn to dusk, all year long! You can also buy a bag of feed for just $1 to feed to some of the emus and the goats. While visiting Rhode Island and Block Island, it is well worth it to make a special trip to see this fun place!
