Winchester Mystery House

Explore this strange house featuring 160 rooms and staircases leading to nowhere.

Beware as you enter this 24,000 square foot mansion. The house owner claimed she was haunted by ghosts and had a construction crew purposefully build strange features to confuse the ghosts. There are staircases that lead to nowhere, a door that goes onto absolutely no deck, and 160 different bedrooms. The owner would purposefully sleep in a different room each night to "confuse the ghosts" as to her whereabouts. 

This beautiful (and possibly haunted) home was inspired by Victorian architecture and has brought real intrigue to the area. It is a historical landmark and offers tours to ensure that visitors don’t get lost. Be sure to take a look if you are traveling nearby San Jose, California. Winchester's supernatural scary movie was partially filmed here, and some of the original costumes are on display inside the mansion for a limited time. Their hours are Wednesday through Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Friday through Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm.
