This is a big, beautiful park with tons of outdoor amenities available.
The West Wetlands Park is a favorite for Yuma citizens as well as for visitors to the area. The park is 110 acres and offers a beach, boat ramp, disc golf course, equestrian trail, gardens, grills, picnic areas, playgrounds, a pond, ramadas, and walking paths.
The West Wetlands Pond and the surrounding green space are massive and available for all visitors. The pond is 15 feet deep at the center and is stocked regularly with a variety of game fish by the Arizona Game & Fish Department. Keep in mind that a fishing license is required and there are daily limits, as well.
The Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground was destroyed by fire in 2014 but was rebuilt and re-opened in December of 2015. It is a huge playground with many amazing items to enjoy such as a zip line, a 66-foot track, and a giant Tri Net climbing structure that is 18 feet tall and strong enough to support about 60 kids climbing at the same time. There are face-to-face swings that allow eye contact with parent and child, as well.
The park has other playgrounds as well plus multi-use trails that are smooth and wide. Bird watchers love this area because you have the chance to see hummingbirds, hawks, finches, ducks, egrets, and doves.
The sandy beach is nice and many enjoy swimming in the river. The area has carved-out sandstone boulders that make great chairs. This is a habitat restoration project with gorgeous plants that attract plenty of birds. The springtime is amazing with all of the desert trees in bloom. If in the area, do not miss this beautiful and vibrant park.
