Tour this WWll training facility in southwestern Arizona.
This 14,000 square foot facility has a history beginning from time of General George Patton during WWWII (when it was known as the Desert Training Center) to now. The Yuma Proving Ground Heritage Center features 14 exhibit galleries. You can also enjoy a 27-minute film in the theater and meander through two galleries, one commemorates 9/11 and the other is about the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War. For over 70 years, this center has hosted countless military activities to train and equip America's combat forces to ensure they are the best trained in the world. The Heritage Center presents a visual interpretation of the people, places, and events depicting military history to the public.
Visitors can also see the "Big Guns" such as the M65 Atomic cannon (one of five in exhibit throughout the world). Check out the Wahner Brooks Exhibit, an outdoor interpretive center with walkways where you can see combat vehicles, rockets, and artillery systems that have been tested here. Guided tours of this incredible facility are available upon request. The public is welcome to see the center Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
