Stop by the museum inside Walt Disney's personal barn, which celebrates his passion for trains.
The famous Walt Disney admired trains all his life. He constructed this barn on his property in California to resemble that of his family barn in Missouri. When you come, you will see model trains and other woodwork that Walt built. Many of his designs, finished products, and other possessions have been added to the barn. One special addition to this collection is the Retlaw combine, a special car from a train Walt used to “purchase” rides on as a kid by offering workmen apples from his family farm. This train car was restored in 2010 and added to Walt's Barn. His original constructed barn used to be in Holmby Hills, California, and was transferred to Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum to preserve his treasures.
Not only did he collect trains, but he built a rideable model train for his girls in his own backyard in 1950. It was a passion he shared with his family, and the world. He also captained the Carolwood Pacfic Railroad until overseeing the Disneyland railroad's careful construction up until it opened in 1955. This unique museum is open every third Sunday per month from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission and parking are free.
