Add a piece of gum and take a picture in front of Seattle’s iconic gum wall.
The Gum Wall, featured in Jennifer Aniston's film Love Happens, is one of the more odd attractions in Seattle. In 1993, patrons began to stick their gum on a wall neighboring a theater. The theater tried on multiple occasions to clean the wall, but it was too late. The tradition had caught on. They allowed people to continue this tradition but learned to become grateful for it in 1999. This is the year the state acknowledged the gum wall as an official tourist attraction. Not only is the wall famous for being a spot where people could come and stick their gum, but it became the location for a ghost tour.
This wall became particularly famous when Jennifer Aniston filmed a few scenes from Love Happens on location, in 2008. In 2015, the state decided to do a full clean of the wall due to integrity problems with the building. The procedure took over two days and by the end of it, they had collected over two thousand pounds of gum. The effort turned out to be futile in the end since only a week later; gum had begun to reappear again on the wall.
