See the "Mystery Painting" at this National Historic Landmark.
The San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church is located at the southern end of Taos, New Mexico. This building was constructed by hand in the early 1800s and is still an active church. It features adobe bricks, twin bell towers, and a choir loft. One of the most notable things to view is the exquisite oil paintings. You can inquire about making a reservation to see the Mystery Painting at the gift shop, but they limit how many people can enter to limit light exposure to the painting.
This historic church offers mass every Sunday at 8 am, and 10 am, and at 7 am Tuesday through Friday. Visitor viewing hours of the church are Monday through Friday at 9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. You can also come in on the weekends during those same times, except at 3:30 pm. If you're visiting northern New Mexico, consider stopping by the San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church, one of the original buildings in town.
