Take a look at some historic firefighting memorabilia and deepen your appreciation for what firefighters do.
Located just West of Interstate 35, the Oklahoma firefighters museum is a neat place for anyone interested in learning more of the history behind firefighting. This museum has been open since 1969 and has several exhibits for visitors to look at. You will be able to see things like antique firefighting equipment dating back to the 1700s, an 8 foot high painted wall mural, and a huge collection of patches gathered from firefighters from across the globe. Inside the museum, there is also a restored fire truck that was in operation in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma during the late 1920s until the early 1940s.
In 1995 there was a tragic fire in Oklahoma City and there were two memorials built in honor of the people who fought this fire. One of these memorials is on display for everyone to see right as they enter this museum. You can also see a small replica of an old firehouse that shows a working version of a 20th-century fire alarm system. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop where you can purchase things like child-sized plastic fire helmets, fire trucks, posters, shirts, hats, necklaces, and coffee mugs. The museum gladly accepts donations as well if you are interested in supporting the cause
