Ride an old steam train and learn about the history of Carson City's railroad system.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a family-friendly attraction located in southern Carson City, Nevada. Inside the museum, you will see a rotating gallery and exhibits featuring scale models of locomotives, old telegraphs, plus other communication systems that were used back when these trains were running daily. Guests can also book a 20 to 40-minute train ride that loops around the museum grounds for a small fee. Steam train and motor car rides are only available on the weekends from May to September and a few dates in October and December.
Museum hours are Thursday through Monday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Admission to the museum is very affordable at less than $10 for adults. Children ages 17 and under are free. Special events occur throughout the year; check their website for current information. Guided group tours are also available and must be booked at least a month in advance.
