A historic cemetery dating back to the late 1800s.
On the Northside of Queen Anne Hill, you'll find Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The cemetery is in a gorgeous location with a view that will demand your attention. You will see all sorts of trees here, such as evergreen and cedar. These trees help bring the cemetery's natural beauty out, which is already a location that will take your breath away. The Mount Pleasant Cemetery was founded in 1879 and was a popular burial place for martyrs, activists, and pioneers. The cemetery has over 60,000 graves, most of which were buried in the 1800s, the earliest of which was placed in the late 1870s.
The cemetery has an online database complete with photographs of the deceased, where possible. As the gravesite developed, the Free Methodist Church purchased around 10 acres of land to use as their own personal gravesite. This led to many different churches and companies buying land for their own somber uses. Exploring the whole of the cemetery doesn't take much time, depending on how long you'd like to take to enjoy the natural beauty and examine the tombstones. Overall, this is a great location if you're looking for a quiet and out-of-the-way place to reflect and take time for yourself in the bustling city of Seattle.
