At the Minute Man National Historical Park, they show visitors what life was like during the American Revolutionary War. Visitors can explore the structures and the battlefields associated with April 19, 1775, as colonial commanders ordered militiamen to fire back at British troops for the very first time. The area is now a living history center staffed by costumed park rangers. All of the rangers offer information that provides a glimpse into America's history.
Minute Man National Historical Park encompasses over 800 acres, and there is no fee to visit the park. Pets are allowed on the grounds but must be leashed and under control to protect other visitors and wildlife within the park. Be sure to stop by Wayside, the home of notable American authors, namely Amos Bronson Alcott, his daughter Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Margaret Sidney. The Alcott's called the home "Hillside," and later, Hawthorne renamed it "Wayside." The house was also part of the National Underground Railroad network to freedom.
There is a visitor center, plenty of signage, and interpretive guide walks. The walking trails go on for miles and are well taken care of and level enough for most visitors to enjoy. Discover early American history the next time you're traveling through Lincoln, Massachusetts.
