Makoshika State Park is located in eastern Montana off I-94 and encompasses over 11,000-acres of land. The term Makoshika means badlands, and there are various badland formations and dinosaur fossils are found within the park. Beautiful landscape, scenic drives, hiking trails, biking trails, and fossils attract many visitors. This state park also has 28 camping sites, group camping, RV campsites, fire pits, an outdoor amphitheater, picnic areas, a disc golf course, toilets, summer events, and outdoor programs.
Makoshika State Park also has a visitor center located at the park entrance. The visitor center contains a gift shop with various souvenirs, restrooms, plus several exhibits with fossils, geological formations, and prehistoric interpretive information. This center is open during the summer (June through mid-September) from 10 am to 4 pm; it is closed for cleaning from noon to 1 pm. It is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm during the winter. The outdoor space of Makoshika State Park is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm. Water and camping are available year-round, and leashed pets are welcome here. If you're looking for a camping spot in eastern Montana, don't overlook Makoshika State Park.
