A popular Utah attraction that features several hundred animal species.
The Hogle zoo is a very popular attraction in Utah. It is located just 5 miles East of downtown Salt Lake City and has been in operation since 1931. There are several hundred wildlife species to see as you explore the exhibits. These exhibits include polar bears and seals at Rocky Shores, lions and giraffes at the African Savanna, apes and gorillas at the primate forest, a variety of fish and reptiles in the small animals building, and of course the famous elephant encounter.
There is also a train ride and carousel that is fun for kids and parents alike. With plenty of walking space, shops, and cafes you can easily spend half a day exploring this zoo. Don't miss out on the Lighthouse Point splash zone during the summer months. This is free for all zoo guests and is a great way to let your kids cool off. Parents can sit on the benches as they watch their kids play in the splash zone.
If you are visiting Utah in October, go and see the Boo Lights at Hogle zoo. It is fun for the whole family, and kids can even come dressed in their costumes. This event runs through most of the month and is open at night so you can fully experience the fun light displays throughout the zoo. Similarly in December, you can see the Zoo Lights display that has lots of different Christmas lights throughout all areas of the zoo.
If you want to host a birthday party or other group event, you can do that by simply filling out a free form on their website, hoglezoo.org. Hogle Zoo is also right across the street from This is the Place Heritage Park which features a lot of Utah pioneer history and houses that were built during that time period. This is also a fun place to stop by while you're in the area.
