See and learn about steam-powered trains and vintage farm equipment at this outdoor museum.
This outdoor museum is full of history for train lovers and anyone that wants to take a ride or a few rides on the three different sizes of working steam trains. Two of the trains take you through a wooded area and over bridges, you can even ride in a cattle car if you want. This is not a museum where everything is behind glass cases. Some of the exhibits are a 67 ton Shay Logging Locomotive, a electric generator and a 92 ton railroad steam crane. The Museum covers 155 acres and is operated by the La Porte County Historical Steam Society.
Visit the 1900 vintage sawmill, or one of the barns featuring vintage farm equipment and train cars. Guests are welcome to touch and climb on the train cars. You can visit the blacksmith shop and one of the many volunteers will show and tell you all about the history of the trains and how things were done in the past. They have shaded picnic areas too if you want to stay for a light meal. Doc's Soda Fountain is an Ice Cream Parlor within the area that has dining options and sweet treats for you to enjoy.
