See Lake Michigan from the top of Big Sable Point Lighthouse.
Big Sable Point Lighthouse is located in western Michigan. This lighthouse is over 100 feet tall and is located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. It was established in 1867, and it was home to over 70 lighthouse keepers and their families while it was in operation. Supplies had to be shipped out to this remote area until a road was built in 1933. Oil lamps were used up until 1953, when the entire structure became fully electric. In 1968, the last lighthouse keepers left Big Sable Point, and it has been maintained by the US Coast Guard ever since then.
This historic landmark is open seasonally from May 10 through October 24. The lighthouse is open for tours Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. It hosts afternoon concerts during the summer months. These music concerts often feature local artists and can add to the overall experience at the lighthouse.
