Visit these stunning seasonal gardens that feature an authentic Dutch windmill and 150,000 tulips each spring!
Windmill Island Gardens is a seasonal park in what is arguably one of the most charming towns in Michigan. Feel like you’ve been transported to the Netherlands and walk amongst the vibrant blooms and around the 250-year-old windmill that still grinds wheat into flour today. The windmill was brought over from the Netherlands in the 1960s and is the only authentic Dutch windmill operating in the country! Also be sure to visit the historic carousel from 1908 on the property – it still works today and the little ones are sure to appreciate it!
When spring arrives, around 150,000 breathtaking tulips burst into bloom during Holland’s yearly Tulip Time Festival. Guests can also explore the Dutch village, which is complete with historic architecture, Dutch folk dance performances, exhibits about Dutch history and culture, a gift shop with unique souvenirs, and bakeries where you can pick up delectable treats. Whether you’re taking in the many colors of the landscapes, learning about Dutch traditions, or enjoying the peaceful atmosphere that these gardens provide, Windmill Island Gardens is a special place you don’t want to miss out on if you’re in the area during the spring and summer!
