See an old log cabin that George Washington once used as his office.
George Washington's old office is located in Winchester, Vermont. George Washington used the center room of this building as his office while Fort Loudoun was under construction. In front of the cabin, you will see a statue of 16-year-old George Washington depicting the time he worked as a surveyor in 1748. He thought that surveying would be his life's work, and with his earnings, he bought several acres around Frederick County. Washington was a Colonel in the Virginia militia and was responsible for protecting Virginia's 300-mile frontier from the French and the Native Americans.
This historical museum features personal items, Washington's surveying equipment, and a scale model of the town of Winchester circa 1755. There is also a cannon on the grounds of the museum left by General Edward Braddock in Alexandria. Winchester was a pivitol place in George Washington's early adult life because he began his military and political careers here. The museum is open daily from April 1 through October 31. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday and 12 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Admission rates are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for students. If you're passing through northern Virginia, feel free to visit George Washington's Office.
