Learn about WWll at this military fort in Delaware.
Fort Miles is located in southeastern Delaware overlooking Delaware Bay. Even though it was not used to defeat enemies, many soldiers trained at Fort Miles and learned how to operate massive artillery during WWll. This historical area features a WWll artillery park, barrack buildings, a fire control tower, a museum, and a gift shop. The museum is inside Battery 519, an underground chamber full of exhibits and artifacts related to Delaware's role in WWll.
Be sure to head to Tower 7 to see a bird's eye view of the park. The fort also offers tours, historical programs, and special events throughout the year. At the artillery park, they often host artillery demonstrations to help guests learn about the coastal defense system. This fort is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Any history buff will love spending time at Fort Miles. Check out this place the next time you're in Delaware.
