Visit several waterfalls along this picturesque hiking trail.
Eagle Creek Trailhead is located in Cascade Locks, off of Interstate 84, about an hour west of Portland, Oregon. Usually, this trail is open year-round to visitors. Under normal circumstances, there are multiple paths to take that lead to different waterfalls. If you hike the entire trail, it is a 13-mile round trip. At a certain point, you will need to climb along a cliff edge. Handrails are located along this edge to provide a safer experience for all visitors. The drop beside the trail is 200-feet and has been given the name of “vertigo mile.”
On the way to this destination are four other waterfalls, one of which is called Punchbowl Falls. Punchbowl Falls is 3.8 miles in from the trailhead and is known for its structure, looking as if the falls are filling up a large mixing bowl. Continuing down the trail, you will also see Tunnel Falls. This part of the hike has an actual tunnel located behind the falls. You can explore the tunnel and take a descending trail to the base of the falls. An additional 0.5 miles away is Twister Falls, a two-tiered fall that measures over 50-feet high.
Just like most hikes found in the Northwest, the trail is covered with rich vegetation and a seemingly endless forest. It is not recommended to bring pets with you on this hike due to the trail's steep and slippery parts.
